Marriage License

Hopefully the following information will answer most of your questions about civil marriages in Vermont. The fee for a marriage license is $45.00 plus $10.00 for a certified copy of the license after the service. There are no witnesses, waiting period or blood test required.

If you live in Vermont, you will need to obtain your license from the Town that either party lives in, and be married in any Town. If you are from out of state, you may obtain your license in any Town in Vermont and be married in any Town.

An appointment is not necessary in order to come into the office to obtain your license. It takes approximately 20 minutes to issue your license. There is a one-page application you will need to complete in order to obtain your civil marriage license. You do not necessarily need to complete the form in advance. You may obtain the application from this site or the Town Clerk’s office.

To get a Marriage License you must

  • Fill out a Marriage License Form
  • Pay $70.00
  • One of the partners must be present at the Town Office to pay for and get the license
  • Additional certified copies are available for $10.00 each.
